Tour 2015: Manchester United 3-1 San Jose Earthquakes

22/07/2015 12:26

An excellent performance saw Manchester United defeated San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 in their second pre-season friendly last night.

Their was again two teams in two halves with the same XI from the first pre-season match playing in the first half and the same XI playing in the second half as the first pre-season match however Sam Johnstone played the all 90 minutes.

Unlike our first pre-season match their was more than one goal as chances flowed throughout and goals were scored for fun.

Memphis came close on five minutes and then Mata soon after as United looked like they could run riot. However the first goal came within 32 minutes as Mata picked up the ball on the edge of the box. He gracefully skipped past a challenge and clipped a low ball towards the right hand post. Memphis had looked like he had got something on the ball as it rolled it but replays had shown that it was Mata's goal!

Five minutes later however Memphis did get his first Manchester United goal as he latched onto a misplaced pass in the box putting him one on one with the goalkeeper. In the blink of an eye it 2-0 as Memphis slotted the ball into the right hand post. It was certain that this one was his goal!

The second half started with most of the youngsters out and they again showed their potential with Andreas Periera stealing the show yet again as his movement and skill shown through.

San Jose did pull one goal back when Morgan Schnierlin's error led to the ball finding Alashe on the edge of the box to finesse the ball past Johnstone.

The young Brazilian Pereira did get the third goal for United when he was given a free header in the middle of the box after finding an opening. The small man who is not used to scoring headers leapt high and header like a composed goal scoring striker into the bottom right hand corner.

The match overall was a pleasing performance with players showing potential and new signing looking like they are settling in well as we continue our pre-season tour!

MUFC 1st Half XI: Johnstone, Darmian, Jones, Blind, Shaw, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Young, Mata, Memphis, Rooney

MUFC 2nd Half XI: Johnstone, McNair, Smalling, Evans, Blackett, Lingard, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Pereira, Januzaj, Wilson

Man of the match:

Memphis Depay
Memphis was brilliant and his flair, speed and general play was easy on the eye as the way he carried himself with confidence was much like Ronaldo in his United days. Getting into the box and latching onto misplaced passes he was the stand out performer in the first half!

Andreas Pereira
Another fantastic performance as he ran the show in that free roaming role in behind Wilson in the second half. The Brazilian was at the heart of all Uniteds attacks and got himself on the scoresheet through fantastic movement and a strikers header!

We move onto Barcelona in our next pre-season match as United are now unbeaten in all two of our pre season
matches.
