Midfielder happy to help out

Manchester United midfielder Michael a Carrick says he is happy to play in defence if he is needed to.

A recent shortage of defender leaves a huge gap of experience and Premier League proven centre backs.

Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Snalling and Johnny Evans (Doubt) all definitely out for the match against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Michael Carrick said "If I need to play there then fine I have not had a lot of football recently so I will play anywhere,"

The former Tottenham Hotspur man filled in for the injured Marcos Rojo in the Manchester Derby defeat as he played his first match of the 2014/15 season.

The 32 year old is nearing full fitness as he recovers from a broken ankle sustained just before the Premier League seasons kick off.

He also added "It's not somewhere I have played an awful lot of games."

It is a huge boost for the midfielder as he will have some game time just not in the position which new signing Daley Blind has taken rather nicely too.

He finally said "I have had spells of playing there over the years, playing two or three or four games in a season."

In all truth if Carrick has to play in centre back until this defensive crisis is resolved then that is satisfactory solution.

I hope he can work his way to play alongside Blind in the Manchester United midfielder as their passing range together would be a partnership greatly recognised through the League ranks.
