Juan Cuadrado- Fiorentina

Juan Cuadrado was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer but a move was pushed out of the question towards the end.

At Fiorentina he had been fairly quiet and unannounced onto the world stage with only a handful knowing who Juan Cuadrado was.

During the World Cup however the Colombian blossomed with his fellow countryman to be a winger know to the world and valued at £30-32m.

In reasonable circumstances like every transfer window Manchester United were linked to every player and it was no surprise the 26 year old was on the radar.

At one point a deal looked imminent with Fiorentina's president admitting he couldn't hang onto the winger if an important offer did arrive.

He said earlier in the month "You need to understand if an important offer does arrive, it is like a loose train and I can't hang on."

It quickly escalated that Manchester United were on the brink of reaching an agreement for Cuadrado. Instead they diverted their plans elsewhere when a breakthrough arrived in another deal.

The Red Devils went ahead and proceeded with a British transfer record fee of Angel Di Maria and dropped their interest in the winger.

With only days left now of the window Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle confirmed that he will not leave the club "We can say it with certainty. Juan has confirmed to us he will to stay. I think it's a big gift."

It wasn't a case of unlike many different years where Manchester United missed out on their target they just simply diverted onto a better option of proven world class.
