Germany progressed to their fourth consecutive World Cup semi final after an early goal was enough to end Frances World Cup dreams.

The goal came after just 13 minutes when a Phillpe Lahm free kick had found Mats Hummels towering above Rafael Varane. The Dortmund defenders power was evident as his header hit the bar and gone into the back of the net.

France were pressing after they went behind and did come close on a couple of times but they never really created a clear chance to take the game to the Germans.

Germany's defence was opened up very easily at times and it was their strong goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who was single handily keeping them in game.

France come close towards the end of the game when Karim Benzema was set through on the right hand side although his shot was saved by the Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer.

Germany are a good side and showed their qualities against a good French team but are not looking as unbeatable as some may think as their defence was exploited were easily at times.
