Captain wants change

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney wants a change to the hectic Christmas fixture list with it tiring the players out and threatening serious injury.

The Red Devils currently have a small injury list with Angel Di Maria and Antiono Valencia the only ones to suffer an injury over the Christmas period.

Rooney said "It is not easy playing two games in two days and you do lose a lot of the quality from both teams,"

Having featured in 15 of Man United's 20 fixtures this season Rooney has had a fairly clear injury free season.

The United captain has only missed matches because of his red card against West Ham (3 games), MK Dons (Rested) and Stoke City (slight injury).

The former Everton captain also said "It is difficult. We started so well in the first half but in the second half it was tough and hopefully in the future it has to change."

Having played two Premier League games within 43 hours and then three in a week it is asking a lot of not only United players but Premier League players.

He also said "It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from doing it (playing twice in two days), which no one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I think it does need looking at."

I do believe that the fixture list needs to change even though the Christmas period in England is so exciting it is a little tiring on the players and could cause serious injury.
