Brazil edged out a very decent looking Colombia as a late goal could not put them off from winning the game.

The game was very much in Brazil's control until they lead 2-0 as then the Colombia side started coming back at them trying to score goals.

The first goal came after just seven minutes when a corner from the left hand side. The cross had found its way into the back post where Thiago Silva lay to simply fumble home into the back of the net.

The game was very much Brazil attacking at this point as the quick counter-attacking movement was evident. Colombia weren't throwing anything back in terms of attacking wise. Brazil's looked to have the game by the scruff of the neck and were compact in all positions.

The second goal for Brazil came just 20 minutes from the final whistle as new PSG star David Luiz had the ball 25 to 30 yards away from the Colombian goal in a set piece position. His freekick rifled into the top right hand corner which is something he hardly ever does even though he tries it so much. A free-kick that was perfectly hit and it was sumptuously delivered and the way he caressed the ball was absolutely fantastic.

After this point Colombia started to come back into the game as they switched James Rodriguez from the left hand side into a more central position. This enabled him to use more of his creative attacking midfield ideas and basically decide the tempo of the game.

Columbia scored with just 10 minutes left as a dubious penalty decision, which was a penalty but the referee should have sent off goalkeeper Julio Cesar. It was James Rodriguez who put the ball into the left hand side of the goal and got his team back into the game giving them some hope.

It wasn't enough to seal the victory or even get them back level as Columbiana came crashing out along with their star man James Rodriguez. The AS Monaco star and his country has given us something really special to shout about and really enhanced his performance on the world stage.

As for Brazil they progress into the semi-finals of the World Cup and will come up against a very stern looking German team who will cause some problems definitely. They are still unconvincing and haven't really managed to surpass the team easily but sailing through the barriers and finding out victories.

Man of the match: Thiago Silva
