Belgium scraped through as two extra time goals were enough to fend off a decent looking United States team.

The game was in control of Belgium for most it the second half but every chance they had they were faced with an even stronger save by goalkeeper Tim Howard. The Everton goalkeeper shone through the match.

The first goal came through neat and quick movement from the Belgians as the ball finally found it's target with Kevin De Bruyne. The ball had found it's way to him on the right hand side as he cooly glided the ball past Tim Howard's out stretched foot and into the bottom left hand corner.

The second goal came just minutes later when Romelu Lukaku had been set through on the left hand side. As he had been racing clear and the substitute showed no hesitation just composer to drive the ball past Tim Howard and into the back of the net.

Into the second half of extra time and the USA were much the better team as the Belgians looked to sit back and protect their lead. The Americans did score through Green after a fantastic looped pass from Bradley.

Belgium did deserve to go through as they were the better team throughout but the Americans and most of football fans had that feeling that USA might go on and score to take the game to penalties.

The United States will go home now and hopefully out of this their home country will enjoy and get into football a lot more as it may need to grow in their country.

Belgium will now go to the quarter finals after winning this match. They will have a fantastic game against Argentina which will be very difficult for he dark horses of this competition.

Man of the match: Tim Howard
