Argentina carved out a hard victory as they progressed to the semi finals of the World Cup.

It was one goal that decided the teams as Gonzalo Higuain turned out to be the match winner for his country.

The goal came after just eight minutes as Angel Di Maria had tried to play a pass to the right hand side. Fortunately the ball had taken a deflection and came to Higuain on the volley as he rifled the ball into the right hand corner leaving goalkeeper Courtois no chance.

Belgium had tried to push forward in the second half and were slowly gaining control of the game although they were poor in the final third with chances going begging.

Higuain did also hit the bar in the game as he had cheekily nut-megged Manchester City defender Vicent Kompany to open up space through the middle. The Napoli striker had beaten the Belgian goalkeeper but was unable to keep his shot down as it came crashing off the crossbar.

The game itself did not have a natural flow as the referee and linesman were both at hand in stopping the game at any given chance. Fouls and offside were covered throughout the match but not as many as the Brazil vs Colombia last night.

As Belgium had pressed forward in the final minutes they left themselves exposed with Fifa Ballon'dor winner Lionel Messi running through one on one at goal. Although he could not finish as he tried a wasteful chip against Courtois.

On the bright side Manchester United's Maraoune Fellaini had a fantastic performance and was key to Belgians attacking outlets as main man Eden Hazard was fairly quiet.
